Nope, we haven’t gone crazy..
We all know the importance of social media. It’s key for brand awareness, perception management and staying in touch with your customers, just to name a few..but Google have brought out the big guns. They’ve been out pulling birds, and now have Twitter wrapped around their little finger (and in their search results). Forget Rihanna, Kanye and Paul Mccartney, we’d call this the collaboration of the year!
Where are they showing?
Some Tweets will show in a carousel format as large images at the top of the page, but this won’t always be the case. The Tweets can also show up in the middle of search results, but on both occasions are shown under a heading stating ‘Popular on Twitter’. So tweets with a high level of engagement, and those relevant to the search will be displayed as of Tuesday 19th May 2015.
‘It’s a great way to get real-time info when something is happening. And it’s another way for organizations and people on Twitter to reach a global audience at the most relevant moments.’ -Google
So far, Tweets will only be shown for mobile, so either on the Google mobile app or from any browser on a phone or tablet. It’s being rolled out slowly, and Google state they are looking to bring out the update in languages other than English and for desktop users.
For us Social media Twitter geeks, this is all a bit too exciting. Finally, we get our time to shine in search! And just imagine the extra impressions and traffic it could bring, leading to more followers and higher engagement..
So after a previous attempt to index twitter content, we now have recognition again from Google for all our well deserved Tweets, as long as you’re on mobile. Hurrying up with the whole indexed Tweets for desktop thing would be cool too, no pressure Google. *hint hint* Second time lucky, right?
